Annular Solar Eclipse 2012

We went out to Captain Jack's Stronghold to view the eclipse.  Park staff from the Lava Beds and several volunteers were on hand to make the event enjoyable.  LOTS of people showed up!  We got to look through great big telescopes.  One of them made the sun look red and showed solar flares, I think this was my favorite part!

Ady and her friend Maddison made bracelets with solar beads.  We learned that if you put sunscreen on the beads, they won't change colors, kind of like people.

Caiden and his friend Eric used magnifying glasses to heat up grapes on the ground.  Of course Caiden asked, "Could this cook an ant?"  I'm thinking he is NOT the first boy to consider that option!  They did accomplish some nice blisters on the grapes though!

And of course we did watch the eclipse. We got to see the "Ring of Fire", then walk the .2 miles back to the car.  The kids all enjoyed their time together, the weather was gorgeous. Just a little sporadic cloud cover to keep the temperature down but not interfere too often with the amazing solar event.  Thank you Jesus for creating such spectacular displays of your greatness and creativity!
