The house sits on piers. Piers are metal tripod stands that are bolted into the house and into the foundation. There are LOTS of them.
Next is the stem wall, or the outside of the foundation that will be partially visible when all is said and done. There are two rows of smooth block and a top row of split block. On top of this will be a pressure treated piece of something, and some shims. (that's about where my understanding stops at this point.)
The rebar that is sticking up from the foundation also goes through the block which will be cemented inside the block. Pretty exciting eh?
