We very much enjoyed viewing the dam. We first took the scenic route to view it from afar, there were very angry clouds gathering. Next we drove down and watched a PBS movie about the dam, then viewed the visitors center and finally walked out and across the dam. The kids totally enjoyed walking and jumping in the puddles and seeing the big turkey vultures fly close over us. The dam is three times as thick at the bottom as it is tall...amazing! We chose not to the do the tour (even though it is free) we had done it a few years ago and thought the kids would much rather run a top the huge thing than listen to lots of info about it.
