Tis the season. The first picture is of my newly transplanted seedlings to the front/side flower bed. Mostly nicotiana that I started and few nursery bought petunias. Second picture is the "island" mostly filled with flax (my favorite flower if you haven't seen my four flower beds of it yet!) Kevin planted the garden yesterday. We covered the furrows in preen, because other wise we always lose the weed battle. Today he dug a trench and installed a new water line. Several years ago the patch behind the house which seems the perfect place for a garden, was overrun by many many sheep which completely altered the pH of the soil. 4 years ago we tried to grow stuff there and it just shriveled and died. We tested it this year and according to the tester, the soil should be great for growing...unless there is something else going on! I think this is the biggest garden we have planted...(it includes 160 onion starts..not sure WHAT he was thinking...I accept NO responsibility for this one!) we'll see how it all goes. The new water line will be handy for frost protecting as well as allowing us to water the yard as well. Each year, we expand our yard a bit more and need more water. The two hoses we have been running just aren't cutting it anymore! The backhoe was very handy for this project, as well as Uncle Jerry's help, even though he did end up getting purple gunk dripped on his boots...fast feet can be a plus around here!
